NHD-0216MW-IB3 pinout

Can I get clarification on the pinout of NHD-0216MW-IB3? The datasheet shows pins 1 and 8, but where is pin 2? Is the arrangement:

8 6 4 2
7 5 3 1

or

8 7 6 5
4 3 2 1

  I would suggest an update to the drawing to make the pin arrangement clear to future users. I ran into the same issue and was glad to find the answer here, but it would have been better to have the drawing clear.
