NHD-C0220BiZ-FSW-FBW-3V3M fails premature

I am using the NHD-C0220BiZ-FSW-FBW-3V3M and it appears to operate fine initially, then fails after time (from a week to a few months).  On analysis I see that pin 6 or 8 are high impedance as their voltage starts at 3.3 volts, then drops to zero. The rest of the pin inputs are perfect.
I do have the capacitors recommended by the data sheet on these pins.  It appears to occur at 1 installation but other identical installations are fine.  It is used in homes so the temperature is always room temperature, but the humidity may be high in the home with the failures.
The back lighting is only on when someone presses a switch to access the display information.

  It seems you may be correct in your assumption about the humidity.  The display is tested at 90% humidity, so if running for a while at or above 90% humidity, the display could most definitely fail.  If there is a way to test the humidity in the failure part's environment you may find it goes above our pass criteria, as it seems the other units you have are running good.  Humidity is a display's worst enemy!
