NHD0420-CW-AY3 not working (display blank dark)
I'm using the older version of this display. It runs good in 8 bit and 4 bit mode using my own bit bang code with a 5V supply. In I2C mode nothing happens using either a 2.8V or 3.2V supply. Question: If the factory default mode is hex 00 (low volts) and it was run by mistake in 5V mode would this wipe out the low voltage regulator but not affect 5V operation?

Are you using our example code or your own to run the NHD-0420CW-AY3 display in I2C?
When you say factory default mode is 0x00, are you referring to the Function Selection A command value? Or are you referring to another command / pin?
The Function Selection A command - which is used to enable/disable the internal regulator is set to 0x5C (internal regulator enabled) at power on request so this would be the default.
