NHD-0216SZW display control not reliable

Controlling the display cursor position is unreliable. A simple power cycle might result in the top and bottom lines switching position, and it may stay that way for a number of power cycles. Now the display is only showing one line, and i can not get it back to show two lines.

There no issues with displaying characters, although they are a little dim.

  Does this behavior improve when you are able to add a few delays from the data being sent to the display after a power cycle?
  Is the recommended initialization sequence from the datasheet being run after performing a power cycle?
