LED backlight on NHD-0216SZ-NSW-BBW

The NHD-0216SZ-NSW-BBW data sheet seems to indicate that an on-board resistor is used to operate the LED backlight at 5 volts. If I want to reduce the backlight brightness with an external resistor, can anyone tell me: 1.) The value of the onboard resistor, and 2.) the voltage drop across the LEDs?

  To answer your questions about the NHD-0216SZ-NSW-BBW:
  

  • The on-board resistor for the LED (R8) is 680 Ohms.
  • The voltage drop across the LEDs is 5V.
