NHD-5.0-800480TF-ATXL#CTP with my own HDMI interface
Hi,
I want to use this TFT with TFP401 HDMI on my own based on TFP401 (not using touch screen yet) So to try it I also bought your TFT with HDMI interface witch works fine.
Making my own PCB for HDMI interface (no touch needed at this time) in the same manner as ADAFRUIT (same IC interface TFP401)
But with my own HDMI interface, the LCD doesn't work. So I bought an adafruit interface and it's not working too.
Trying to change OCK_INV and ENID
The only diffrence between adafruit vs newhaven schematics are the pin 37 to 40 of the TFT.
On your datasheet (NHD-5.0-800480TF-ATXL#CTP) these pins are "NO CONNECT" but on your TFT NHD 5.0 HDMI schematic these pins are connected using zener.
Is this the reason why the adafruit interface or mine (same design) doesn't work with NHD-5.0-800480TF-ATXL#CTP ?
I can't see any other difference. I've passed weeks to find what's wrong.
Video is detected but TFT shows white and jitters (also tried backlight issues)
This is because I have to make it work for my company (using 100 x newhaven TFT/year). I have to make it work with our own PCB (cost, connectors emplacement etc...).
Someone can help ?

I asked if this is because of diodes but they are only on the schematic and not mounted on PCB.
So... What to test ?0 -
Hi Harryweb,
The TFT's pins 37-40 would only be used with the resistive touchscreen version of this display and the diodes would be installed in that case.
The EEPROM on our HDMI PCB is programmed with the TFT display's parameters and it provides EDID parameters to the video source in order to configure the proper resolution.
Please confirm the method you are using to initialize and communicate with the TFT display.

Thank you Ted_M,
I have some NHD-5.0-800480TF-ATXL#CTP that we are using on our equipments with banana PRO or banana PI M1+ they work great
I bought your NHD-5.0-HDMI (it use the same TFT) and it work great on Raspberry PI 4 (We plan to change from banana to Raspberry and its not possible to use this TFT without HDMI on this mini computer)
So I made our own PCB HDMI to RGB interface using TFP401 because of the placement in our equipments and connectors.
Newhaven Display give schematics and it's pratically the same as ADAFRUIT.
Copying the ENID EEPROM from your TFT+HDMI and putting on my own board.... The NHD TFT didn't work !
Putting the ENID EEPROM on Adafruit interface module with NHD TFT didn't work too. (this adafruit inteface module works with their resistive TFT, but we don't want to use their TFT. Using only Newhaven as usual in our equipments.
I read/write EEPROM with EZP2010 programmer and it works
So I don't understand why our NHD-5.0-800480TF-ATXL#CTP doesn't work with the "same" interface.
I invert clock as mentionned in your datasheet without result
I have a USBEE logic analyser but I don't know what to measure exactly or compare.
Help welcome0 -
I found something strange... Other TFT than original one glued with HDMI interface (same ref) doesn't work !
These other LCD works fine on another equipment (RGB BANANA PRO)
The original TFT unglued from HDMI interface also works with my banana pro.
The TFT bought at MOUSER does not work with hdmi interface and raspberry.
These screens are not the same ? Please see the video for explanation.

Hi Harryweb,
Please confirm the display that is not working has the part # NHD-5.0-800480TF-ATXL#-CTP_Rev15.
It’s hard to tell from the video but it appears that the non-working display is a Rev15 version.
The Rev15 version of this display went EOL in 2018 as the built in Driver IC part # OTA7001A went EOL.
This version of the display is not compatible with the HDMI board due to the older controller timings.
The newer Rev1C versions are compatible to be used with the HDMI board.
Best Regards,0 -
Hi Ted,
I tried REV 1C and it's OK... All other TFT that didn't work are 1B ! I have no REV 15.
I will buy new tft, hoping they have the good REV...Regards
