LCD : NHD-0216K3Z-NSW-BBW-V3 -- Firmware version clarification

I am currently using the New Haven LCD p.no. NHD-0216K3Z-NSW-BBW in one of our application. while ordering the same display from vendor I was told that the display is obsolete and the following LCD p.no. NHD-0216K3Z-NSW-BBW-V3 is available. I have compared the datasheet of these two parts and the new part has a new firmware version V3.
Could you confirm, that the software I have written for the earlier LCD: NHD-0216K3Z-NSW-BBW will work with new LCD: NHD-0216K3Z-NSW-BBW-V3 without any modification.

  Your software should still work fine, depending on the interface you are using.  If you are using I2C, the timing will need to be adjusted slower to work with the newer firmware.  This is currently being revised to be able to run at the same speed as the previous version.  If you are using SPI or RS-232, the timing will be the same.
